Collagen Wave is a medical-grade monopolar radio frequency (RF) skin-tightening treatment. To keep you safe and your results at their best, there are some conditions where the treatment isn't suitable, and others where extra care or a doctor's input is needed first.
Pacemaker, defibrillator or any implanted electronic device
Collagen Wave delivers radio frequency energy, which must not be used near implanted electronic devices such as pacemakers or defibrillators.
Metal implants in the treatment area
RF energy and metal implants in the area being treated are not compatible, so this is an absolute contraindication.
Pregnancy or nursing
There's no safety data for RF treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so we'll happily welcome you once you're past this stage.
Severe or concurrent illness
Conditions such as cancer, lupus, uncontrolled diabetes or uncontrolled seizure disorders mean treatment isn't appropriate.
Active skin disorders or lesions in the treatment area
Concurrent or chronic skin conditions or lesions where we'd be treating need to be fully resolved first.
Severe bleeding or vascular disorders
These affect healing and the skin's response and carry a high risk of complications.
Under 18 years of age
Collagen Wave is not suitable for anyone under 18.
Reduced skin sensation in the area
If you cannot reliably feel heat (for example due to nerve damage), you can't give the feedback the treatment relies on to stay safe.
A tendency to keloid scarring or poor healing
Where the skin forms keloids or heals poorly, RF skin trauma carries a higher risk.
Tattoos or permanent make-up in the area
We do not treat directly over tattoos or permanent make-up.
Recent oral retinoids — Accutane (Isotretinoin)
Your last use must be at least six months before treatment to avoid a high risk of complications.
A history of cold sores or herpes
Heat can trigger a flare-up, so a history of conditions triggered by heat should be managed with preventative medication beforehand.
NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen)
Best practice is to avoid anti-inflammatory medication for one week before and after treatment, as it can affect the skin's response.
Excessively tanned skin
Tan from sun, sunbeds or spray tans needs to settle before treatment to avoid an uneven result.
Recent injectables or other procedures
Anything recent should be fully healed first: Botox needs 2–3 weeks, fillers 6 weeks plus, and more invasive procedures longer. We'll always time it right.
Collagen Wave is a beautiful choice for people in good general health who want non-surgical skin tightening and lifting with no downtime. As a monopolar radio frequency treatment reaching up to 20mm, it works on the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate your own collagen.
It's ideal if you're looking to address fine lines, laxity and loss of firmness, improve tone and texture, or lift and tighten the face and neck gradually and naturally — restoring structure rather than adding volume.
The right plan and number of sessions is always decided together at your consultation, tailored to your skin and the outcome you're after.
