SkinPen microneedling is a controlled, medical-grade collagen-induction treatment. To keep you safe and your results at their best, there are some conditions where the treatment isn't suitable, and others where we'd simply plan around it or check with your GP first.
Pregnancy or breastfeeding
We don't treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding — we'll happily welcome you once you're past this stage.
Active cold sore, skin infection or broken skin
An active infection or broken skin in the area needs to fully heal first to avoid spreading it or affecting recovery.
Active, inflamed acne in the treatment area
Microneedling over active, inflamed acne can spread bacteria, so we wait until it's calm.
Recent oral retinoids — Roaccutane (Isotretinoin)
Your last use must be at least six months before treatment, as retinoids affect how the skin heals.
Active chemotherapy or radiotherapy
Where treatment affects the body's ability to heal, microneedling isn't appropriate without specialist clearance.
Eczema, psoriasis or rosacea in the area
If there's an active flare where we'd be treating, we'll wait for it to settle or work around it.
A history of keloid or raised (hypertrophic) scarring
Where skin is prone to raised scarring, we discuss this carefully before proceeding.
Blood-thinning medication or a clotting disorder
These can affect bruising and healing, so we may check with your GP first.
A condition that affects healing
Anything that slows or complicates skin healing needs to be reviewed before treatment.
Recent injectables in the area
We'll simply time your microneedling to fit around recent injectable treatments.
A history of cold sores
Treatment can trigger a flare-up, so let us know — preventative medication may be advised beforehand.
SkinPen is a wonderful choice for people in good general health who want to improve the skin's quality through controlled collagen induction. As the first FDA-cleared microneedling device, it's a safe, precise and versatile treatment.
It's ideal if you're looking to soften acne scarring and other scars, refine texture, tone and pore appearance, improve pigmentation and fine lines, or simply boost overall skin radiance and firmness.
The right plan — whether a single session or a course — is always decided together at your consultation, tailored to your skin and your goals.
